For over 20 years, GiveLight Foundation has provided a loving home and bright future for orphans globally. Born from the tragedy of Indonesia’s 2004 tsunami, which left thousands of children orphaned, GiveLight’s very first Noordeen Home was established to support 50 of these children. Today, with seven homes across the world and partners across twenty countries, GiveLight provides love, care, and support for thousands of orphans.
Founded by Dian Alyan, a former P&G Executive and now GiveLight’s CEO, the organization has achieved incredible milestones, from a 2005 Mercury News article titled “Local woman leads drive to shelter tsunami orphans” to a special feature in the Huffington Post’s The New Global Leader, Part IX, receiving the GuideStar Gold Seal of Transparency, and features on the Learnings from Leaders podcast and in Borgen Magazine.
GiveLight’s homes have been visited by amazing volunteers from MIT, Stanford, Saleforce, and esteemed scholars, including Sheikh Alaeddin Bakri at our home in Aceh, Indonesia, and Imam Zaid Shakir in our Morocco home, Maison de Lumière! GiveLight has also partnered with figures such as comedian Jeremy McLellan and executive Jeff Hoffman.
Dian became a member of the Women’s Islamic Initiative in Spirituality and Equality, and was named as one of altMuslimah’s Muslim Women Changemakers and listed on their article Muslim Women Who Save Lives. She received the P&G Humanitarian Award “for an individual who has made a significant contribution to the human condition through their time, effort or expertise.” She also led a GiveLight team to win the 2015 PayPal Business Challenge. Additionally, she was selected as a 2019 Gratitude Network Fellow out of thousands of non-profit leaders!
There have even been books featuring the work of GiveLight! Rick Tocquigny’s When Core Values Are Strategic reviews Dian’s journey as a former P&G executive to the leader of GiveLight. Summer Qureshi wrote Unsilenced: Voices of Children Refugees, sharing the stories of our children in Turkey and Morocco that she met from her summer as an English tutor at our homes.
On public platforms, Dian has spoken to thousands of audience members about her work at GiveLight. Some examples include the Dubai Muslim World Conference, Young on Top, Jakarta, the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) Conference, and the Medinah Institute for Leadership and Entrepreneurship (MILE). She has been featured on TV One Global, Jakarta and Insight Indonesia to share her story as the founder of GiveLight. Dian has spoken at high-profile corporate events with Apple, Google, Adobe, Intuit, and Paypal, as well as elite schools like Stanford, Yale, MIT, and Columbia!
GiveLight’s growth has been primarily driven by word of mouth. If our work resonates with you, and you want to engage/support us through donations, volunteer efforts, or other collaborations, reach out to events@givelight.org.
